A year ago, on January 19, 2010, my Mom died after a lengthy battle with breast cancer. We scattered her ashes at the base of this tree in Mount Diablo State Park, Danville, CA. For her yahrzeit — one-year anniversary, though we are not Jewish — my oldest and dearest friend Jon, a Catholic priest, joined me at the site and we held a little memorial celebration. The weather cooperated and was quite spectacular. This is a shot of Jon doing a blessing at this site. I think Mom would be pleased.
