Door Detail - El Escorial, San Lorenzo, Spain ©Laura Quick This is the entry door to El Escorial, home to generations of Spain’s Kings. There are a couple of things of note. The door is fortified for extra strength. The door handle sits some 6 feet off the ground — this was so the kings men wouldn’t have to dismount their horses to enter the courtyard.
